I have been neglecting the N5 alot lately, but now that Uni has started up again I will be using it more frequently. I have managed to get a custom made case for the N5 and here are some pictures.

It came in a nice cardboard box showing off the Easecase logo.

It also came in a swede-ish carry pouch which was nice.

The back of the case is smooth and clean.

A quick size comparison next to the device itself.

Here it is with the device inside. It is quite a snug fit and honestly very well made. The inner lining of the case is also a swede material so it helps wipe some fingerprints off the device when putting it in and taking it out.

There is a hidden magnet in the flap so it closes snugly and looks nice and clean. I am very happy with this case and will be using it everyday. Initially I thought the case might look too much like a purse but I’m quite happy with the way it looks.

If you have any questions about the case feel free to leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Also I am very sorry for the blurry pictures. I had to use my old camera since it was the only one I had handy.

I would like to thank my friend for letting me borrow this adapter for testing. I currently own the EVGA UV+ which has shown results that are far from desired. Before I fully test this new adapter, I have done a unboxing to show you what you can expect to see in the box if you also choose to purchase this model. A full test of its capabilities and a comparison to the UV Plus+ will follow shortly after.

The cover states that this particular model supports up to 1920×1080 pixels. Not bad for a USB to VGA adapter.

Sliding the cover open reveals the inner box.

Everything seems to be packed nicely.

The package’s contents pictured from left to right are:

- USB cable
- USB Display Adapter
- DVI to HDMI Adapter
- DVI to VGA Adapter
- Quick start guide
- Driver CD

The DVI end of the adapter up close.

The USB end of the adapter up close.

That’s all there was in the box, not too much different from the EVGA UV+ except for the inclusion of the DVI to HDMI adapter. I will be testing out this adapter soon with my main desktop computer and the much more portable Viliv N5. I will be following up with a side by side comparison between this device and the prior mentioned EVGA UV+.

I was sitting on the train today playing some games on the N5 when a lady sat down on the seat across from me. After a few minutes I noticed her staring in my direction so as I looked up I gave her a friendly smile. As she smiled back she questioned me as to where I “got it from“. I assumed she was talking about the N5 so i told her about the online site dynamism.com. She then continues to question its price where I answered roughly $1000AUD. She was shocked and said that cost more than the device itself and that it “wasn’t worth it“. I was so confused at her statement, what was she talking about?

She then continued to say that she wanted to get a keyboard for her Nintendo DS but wouldn’t even consider it for that price. I literally cracked up laughing and as I looked back at her, she seemed shocked at my reaction. After pulling myself together I had to explain to her that this wasn’t a gaming device but in fact a UMPC. After a short chat about the situation we both had a good laugh and eventually went our own ways. Looking back at it now, I can’t blame her for thinking it was a DS. Both the N5 and the DS share a similar clamshell design, both are similar in size and both are handheld devices. This inspired me to take a few photos comparing them side by side.

I have to say, for people who don’t know too much about these portable devices, they do seem pretty similar.

I wish I could compare it to the newer and larger DSi XL but I don’t have access to one at the moment.

Getting back to the matter of gaming, I have found some games that are perfect for the N5. I will be posting some reviews on them as I find the time to do so.

UPDATE
By unchecking the DirectX video acceleration option I managed to get some videos to play, however it looks like I’m watching a very bad slideshow. Far from perfect and hardly watchable. Will have to keep trying.

Just did a quick test of the EVGA USB to VGA video adapter and the results have not been too good. I’m not sure if it’s a driver issue or something else that’s causing the problem seen in the video but hopefully I can get it fixed soon. You can see what I’m talking about after the break.

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

I have tried the adapter with many different video players and video formats and I am left with the same results every time. YouTube videos on the other hand seem to play perfectly fine even up to 720p on the external monitor. I have yet to try the adapter with my main desktop so I’ll have to do that and see whether it’s an issue with the adapter or the N5.

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll try to see if it works. Now that I have the N5 in my hands, I really wish Viliv implemented the video out function to save me the trouble. However I do have another brand of USB to VGA card coming soon that a friend has ordered so I’ll see if it’s an issue with my adapter.

Anyway stay tuned for updates as I will be trying my best to find a solution to the video playback issue.

Due to the fact that the N5 will be lacking a VGA out ability, I went out and purchased a USB to DVI adapter for some tests. Usually I don’t use the video out features but there may be some potential for viewing movies on a larger screen. If you are interested, the embedded unboxing can be seen after the break.

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck.
I am sure many potential owners are eager to know if this will work with the Viliv N5 so I will be testing it out with the N5 when I have some time, stay tuned for the results.

UPDATE

The dates on Dynamism have changed, the 3g version’s shipment is expected to be on the 15th instead of the 19th. So for those of you who purchased the 3g version, we may be getting them a few days earlier. Only a few more days to go.

Had to stay up until 3am in Australia to pre-order the Viliv N5 from Dynamism. Made sure to get in early so I could get one from the first batch of units being sent out. It has been a long time since I was so excited for any mobile gadget, the last time being the release of the first generation iPhone. I really can’t wait for the 19th to come any sooner; being the expected shipping date. I will hopefully be posting a quick unboxing followed by a lot of hands on demonstrations.

The hype for the N5 has been huge since its initial announcement but its seems as though the excitement for the product has dramatically dropped since the official specifications were released. Many users are complaining about the lack of video out functionality while others are disappointed at its high price point. Personally I have been waiting for a device which can run a fully functional OS which can also fit in my pocket and this fits the bill perfectly. The UMID range cane very close but the built quality and the aesthetics of Viliv’s products really caught my eye.

Does the lack of video out really bother you that much and is $649USD really too much to ask?

After a few days of using the Z-Nano I decided to tests its performance using a flash based game which tests the mouse’s movement, accuracy, consistency, strength and speed. Being the smallest mouse in the world, I didn’t have high hopes for the test.

If you want to know how it performed please check out the results after the break.

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

Before using the Z-Nano for the test I needed another mouse to compare it with so I decided to go with my Microsoft Arc. Shortly after I repeated the tests using the tiny Z-Nano. The results can be seen below.

As you can see the Z-Nano’s performance was an “Epic Fail”. Surprisingly it beat the Arc in terms of accuracy probably due to its higher dpi. With that said, the Z-Nano is a very usable mouse. Maybe not the most productive but for such a small and portable gadget it easily beats most built in touch-pads.

I wanted a test to see if I could upload to YouTube on my connection so heres a quick unboxing of the Z-Nano, the Worlds Smallest Mouse. This thing seemed ridiculously small but decided to get it purely for its novelty factor. I’ve always enjoyed collecting weird gadgets so this little thing fits well into my collection. In terms of computer mice, it doesn’t get any more mobile than this.

If you want a better idea of its size please check out the video after the break.

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck.
